Alexey N.Krylov as a Pioneer of Contactless Method
Academician Alexey Nikolaevich Krylov (1863–1945),the famous Russian-Soviet mathematician and naval architect, occupies an especial place in the history of Russian Navy. The brilliant scientist and one of the most significant naval artillery theorists,he was also the very thorough experimentalist. One of the most darkened areas of Krylovs biography is his interest to non-invasive measurement methods with usage of photographic techniques that were being a part of everyday life in the beginning of XX-th century. In 1905 Alexey Krylov managed to develop a special photographic ship pitching recording method and prepared it for experimental application. The method practically turns the photo camera to an analog oscilloscope with direct values conversion.Simplicity in theory and realization brings the method to the leadership in terms of accuracy and reliability.Later the contactless photographic measurement methods became the predictors of new sophisticated methods and machinery like Motion Capture and photogrammetric 3D-conversion.
