Optimal Design of Specific Bistable Character of Compliant Structures Through Configuration Modification of Local Segments
Influenced by the strong nonlinearity of the snap-through phenomenon, the bistable characteristics including the snapping force, the maintaining force, the stroke, stable positions and modes are strongly coupled with each other, thus resulting design uncertainty of specific bistability.A novel optimization method for designing one specific bistable feature without affecting other characteristics was proposed by simultaneously modifying the geometric parameters of multi-local reinforced segments. For achieving the minimum snapping force and the designated bistable parameter for example γ=1.0 defined as the ratio of the snapping force to the maintain force,a novel cosine-shaped bistable beam with several modified local segments was obtained through multi-step optimization method. The numerical experimental results show that the snapping force can be decreased by 47.4% as well as the bistable characteristic parameter of 1.021 deviating from the goal value within 2.0%,thus,validating the effectiveness of the proposed method.
