Get to Know Your Crowdsourced Workforce
Outsourcing has been a driver of cost reduction for companies in almost all industries for decades.Probably the most publicized example of outsourcing is the emergence of call centres in the late 90s,especially the ones in India servicing large corporations in the United States(US).Even though outsourcing is a controversial topic from a social and economic implications point of view,it is beyond any doubt that many companies that use it recognize considerable cost savings. An emerging way of outsourcing is now crowdsourcing and it includes several sub-categories,such as microtasks, macrotasks, creativity contests and even crowdfunding.Crowdsourcing can focus on capturing the creativity of the crowd(mostly through holdings contests),the wisdom of the crowd(there is now crowdsourced content available: Wikipedia, books, etc.)that is greater(at least in theory)than the wisdom of an individual. It can also focus on the cost reduction opportunities presented by the real time access to a large group of individuals that are open to trading short periods of time for money. The latter is usually done through microtasks posted on online portals where individuals and companies of all sizes can post short tasks that need to be performed and have them completed in a matter of seconds very inexpensively. Our articles objective is to find out more about the people participating in this kind of exchange(completing microtasks).
