Efficiency Analysis Using Common Weights and Parallel Model:A Case Study
The hairdressing service sector holds an important position in the service industry in Taiwan. In order to improve and enhance the service competence, the management attaches great importance to efficiency evaluation. This paper addresses the issue for measuring efficiencies of 26 chain stores belonging to a hairdressing company in Taiwan.According to the regional and management viewpoints, the 26 stores can be divided to five districts. Then, each district contains five or six stores. The management purposes to assess the efficiency under 26-store and 5-district schemes so that the analysis results can be more fairly and economically. This paper proposes a model with the feature of using a common set of weights to measure the efficiencies of 26 stores and five districts simultaneously under the objective of maximizing the average efficiency. The computational results reveal that the efficiency rank evaluated by the proposed model is similar to that of conventional model. Two important points arisen by comparing the proposed model with conventional model.Firstly, the proposed model is more economically to accomplish the same task by solving it only one time, simultaneously for all stores and districts.Secondly, the proposed model results less number of efficient stores, and hence,it has higher discriminability.
