A Cross-Cultural Comparison of Instructional Supervision in Higher Education

  This article presents a cross-cultural comparison in terms of instructional supervision conceptions and practices in higher education institutions.Supervision in American institutions attaches more importance to supportive role for teachers instruction improvement.By contrast,Chinese supervision is more concerned with judgmental function and covers a wide range of responsibilities other than instructional supervision.Both Chinese and U.S.system regard evaluation as an important component of supervision since it provides valuable reference for later effective supervision.The commonly used evaluation approaches include class observation,scale rating and students interview.
