Life Cycle Assessment Based Carbon Footprint Calculation and Analysis of Accommodation Services-A Case of Four-Star Hotels in Kunming City of China
Global warming caused by Greenhouse gas emission has become a major environmental issue.GHG emission generated from service or commodity consumption is measured by Carbon Footprint(CFT)on the basis of Life Cycle Assessment(LCA).A CFT Model was introduced into Tourism Environmental studies to evaluate LCA of Hotel Accommodation Services. Then the model was applied to empirical research which was mainly fixed on six four-star hotels in Kunming city of China. Results showed that the CFT of hotels, accommodation products was mainly generated during the operation phase, which accounts for about 72.71%of the entire life cycle. And there are three main sources of the CTF of hotels, accommodation products, energy consumption which accounts for about 60.98%,waste release and Refrigerant Leakage. The main effective factors of the CFT of hotel accommodation products was the consumption of material and energy, and the emission coefficient, however, the scale of hotels did not worked dramatically for it was interfered by other factors such as environmental temperature. This study seeks to find solutions to reduce the GHG emission in tourism industry and to provide a relevant theory support.
