Application of Micro-blasting for Rescue Work

The breaching breaks down a part of a reinforced concrete wall, in order to rescue survivors in need of help in collapsed building at the natural disaster such as big earth quake.Because the road is severed, and the situation is chaotic, the development of the breaching technology with mobility and promptness are necessary. For such technology, we considered the utilization of the energetic materials. The reinforced concrete wail was selected as the subject at the breaching. Two situations have to be considered. If the survivors are found at the back side of wall, the fragmentations cannot be allowed. If there is no person at the back side, the fragmenta tions are allowed. The crater size caused by blasting is important parameters. In order to clarify the relationship between the conditions of explosive charge and the crater size, the model experi ments for the typical reinforced concrete wall were carried out.The thickness of the sample wall is 150ram.Finally, we found the optimum charge conditions for micro-blasting for both clean and dirty breaching.
