Hydrogen Accumulation and Distribution in Technically Pure Titanium at Different Conditions of Electrochemical Saturation
Investigation of hydrogen accumulation and distribution in technically pure titanium alloy at dif ferent conditions of electrochemical saturation has shown in this work.It has been established that the electrochemical saturation results in hydrogen accumu lation in the samples surface layer and formation of hydride phases.During the first 100 minutes the fast in crease of hydrogen concentration to 270 10-4 wt.% oc curs, then the concentration curve levels off at the value of 350 10-4 wt.%, which is due to formation of hy dride phases on the material s surface.Increase of sat uration time to 600 minutes leads to the growth of hy dride layer thickness up to 5 um.Alternation of the current density from 0.5 mA/mm2 to 1.5 mA/mm2 during electrochemical saturation results in the increase of hydrogen concentration up to 50 10-4 wt.% up to 170 10-4 wt.% and formation of the hydride layer with the thickness of 0.3 um.For all samples saturated by electrochemical method the formation of hydride leads to cracking of the surface.
