The Effect of Nanosize Structures on Physical Characteristics of Hard Metal Subsurface
Both experimental data and classifi cation of structural scale levels developed in the sub surface of TiC/Ni-Cr-Al alloy cermet after pulse electron beam melting have been presented in this paper. The effect of different scale levels surface nanosize structures on physical properties of the sub surface metal have been investigated. It was shown that nanorestructuring of carbide particles in the subsurface layer occurs under irraduation in either xenon-or xenon + nitrogen containing gas disch erge plasma plasma to greatly reduce friction and improve endurance of the cermet for cutting metal by a factor of 20.
