Effect of Semi-solid Forming on Microstructure Evolution and Mechanical Properties of AZ65 Magnesium alloy
The application of some semisofid forming magnesium alloys are restricted due to their weak mechanical properties.The semisolid thixo forming was used to improve the mechanical proper ties of magnesium alloy.The semisolid microstruc ture evolution of AZ65 magnesium alloy was investi gated by means of OM, SEM and EDS analysis.The results showed that during heat treatment, the residual Mg17 Al12 + Mg32 (Al, Zn)49 phases at the grain boundary were dissolved first, then with the further increasing of temperature, the residual α-Mg phases melted and separated into the sman lump , then changed into spheroidal grains gradually.The mechanical properties of as-cast sample and semisolid thixoforming were compared, the highest value was 227MPa, which was obtained from the semisolid thixoforming.
