Alumina Coatings Prepared by MOCVD as Tritium Permeation Barriers
In this work, alumina coatings were deposited on CLAM and 316L via MOCVD.The phase, microstructure and thermal cycling behavior of the coatings on CLAM were investigated by XRD, SEM and TEM.The deuterium permeation was ex amined from the coatings on 316L.The results show that the 700℃ annealed coating on CLAM is amor phous alumina, while γ-alumina is obtained in the 900℃ annealed coating. The coatings are continu ous, uniform and 550-560 nm of thickness. After thermal cycling, the 700℃ annealed coating on CLAM exhibits no obvious change of morphology, while micro cracks form on the 900℃ annealed coating.Furthermore, the deuterium permeation behavior of the coating on 316L is a hybrid perme ation between hydrogen diffusion limited and surface reaction limited. The deuterium permeability of the coating is P =1.99 × 10-6exp(-117 × 103/RT) mol/m· s.Pa0.5.The permeability of coating is 119 times less than that of 316L at 600℃.
