Skin Effect of WC-8wt % Co Alloy by Microwave Sintering
To investigate the microwave effect on the WC-Co alloys, it was fabricated WC-8wt% Co alloy by microwave sintering (MW) in this pa per.It was found that decarburization layer formed on the surface of the microwave-sintered sample. In addition, WC grain coarsening in the core area was strongly suppressed by this decarburization effect.Furthermore, the microstructure of the MW fabricated alloy was compared to that of the ahoy synthesized by vacuum sintered (VS).Micro struc tural investigations by TEM and EDS showed that more tungsten was dissolved in the cobalt binder phase in microwave sintered alloy than that in the vacuum sintered samples by 29.50wt%.Finally, the formation mechanism of the surface layer by skin effect was discussed.
