Oral Academic Presentation(OAP)Training for Chinese Ph.D.Candidates
Oral academic presentation (OAP) training for doctoral candidates in China is less highlighted compared with the emphasis on academic writing.However, to orally spread the ideas of researchers should at least be put in the same important position in English training for students as other proficiencies, especially when their cross-cultural communicative skills are so much in want of improvement as called in situations of face-to-face international contacts.OAP training can be conducted by combining speech exercises together with academic presentation and communication.The authors trained students in the following aspects: organization of a presentation, voice improvement, communication etiquette, PowerPoint preparation, commonly-used patterns in conferences and academic speech skill development.To improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the training within limited classes, corresponding class activities and group work assignments are provided in the article based on authors teaching experience.
