Leaner-Centered Cultivation of Intercultural Competence-The Case of Teaching College German
In the process of global economic integration, in different fields and between various fields, communication is conducted in a more cross-cultural manner.Therefore, foreign language teaching should not only be confined to simple language level, but instead should pay attention to the instruction of how to cultivate foreign language learners intercultural competence, and enable them to deal with various cross-cultural situations and problems.In recent years, the intercultural competence of German learners has also gradually attracted the attention of academic circles.However, previous discussions and studies have hitherto been limited mostly to the field of Germanic linguistics (Germanistikstudium), while research on how to focus on intercultural competence in College German (Hochschuldeutsch) lessons has been rarely reported.From the theoretical research of cross-cultural foreign language teaching, the author analyzes the present situation of college German teaching in China.Considering the status of the learners main characteristics in university, this paper discusses how to strengthen the cultivation of cross-cultural competence.This article points out that in the new situation the College German course at Tongji University should further expand its scope of teaching, strengthen teaching materials and improve the cross-cultural awareness of the language teachers.It also emphasizes that language is not a completed work, but a cultural behavior, which is changing with time elapsing.It will be a long-term task to emphasize and cultivate cross-cultural competence.
