Fostering Better Presentational Skills Among EFL Learners From a Critical Thinking Perspective
Oral presentations delivered by students are widely recommended nowadays when learner-centered educational mode is highly advocated in China.How to improve the effectiveness of oral presentations inevitably becomes one of important issues.With the purpose of promoting critical thinking skills of students, this paper intends to evaluate classroom oral presentations from the perspective of critical thinking, the skills of which are universally recognized as vital to students of all disciplines.To cultivate the spirit of critical thinking and elicit creative ideas, the authors of this paper developed a rubric from the perspective of critical thinking for assessing the outcome of oral presentations with the focus on understanding, opinions, disagreement and questions.With the adoption of the rubric in teaching for 2 semesters, it has turned out to be effective both in addressing the problems with oral presentations for Chinese students and in improving their performance in critical thinking.
