Interesting Open Experiment in Teaching Application
In the higher education, theoretical teaching is sometimes incompatible with the practical course. Therefore, practical teaching becomes very important. It is well known that chemical teaching mainly depends on experiments, so this paper aims at helping students consolidate their theoretical knowledge and improve their practical skills with the open experimental platform, such as Student Innovation Training Program (SITP) supported by our school.Rice wine, common in students daily life, is taken as the object of study to improve students skills of using chromatographic instrument for chemical analysis of samples.Students analyze the pattern recognition of the experimental data with chemometrics methods Partial Least Squares Discrimination Analysis (PLS-DA), in order to extract typical chemical composition of different types of rice wine, which will help students understand the principles and characteristics of stoichiometry. The results show that students can make better progress in practical skills and chemical theories through practical experiments in daily life.
