Study of Vibration Impact on Historic Buildings Induced by Subway Trains in Spatial Overlapping Tunnels

To protect historic buildings, vibration impact on the Bell Tower in Xian induced by subway trains in spatial overlapping tunnels is studied. This historic building was built in 1384, due to its unique art and architecture design, both structure and architecture damage should be a voided. As the subway lines L2 and L6 were planed to build under the Bell Tower, to study and control the micro vibrations, a subway train-track-tunnel-soil 3D dynamic FE model was created. Then, the vibration response generated by subway L2 is predicted, and the influences of train speed on ground vibration are analyzed. After the subway L2 opened to operate, situ measurement was performed to calibrate the numerical model. Results show that installing steel spring floating slab tracks and decreasing train speed have obvious effects on the controlling of ground PPV.Simulated results of both input impulse and output response generated by subway L2 match good with measure ment ones. The calibrated model can be used predict the vibration responses generated by the com bination operation of subway L2 and L6.
