Numerical Analysis of Impact Forces Between a Light Truck and High-Speed Railway Bridge Pier

  Authors For elevated bridges on high-speed railways, the probability of vehicle colliding with piers becomes higher.In this paper, a Pickup truck and railway pier system is established to analyze the impact force characteristics by using finite element software ANSYS LS_DYNA.Four different speeds, 60 km/h, 80 km/h, 100 km/h and 120 km/h, are simulated to extract the impact force-time histories and to analyze the force characteristics.The result shows that the intensity of the impact force reaches tens of MN, and the loading duration is less than 0.2 s.The impact en ergy mainly concentrates on the low frequency, and the higher the impact speed, the more compo nent of high-frequency.This method is feasible to simulate a vehicle impact with pier and to gain impact force time histories.
