In-situ Measurements and Analysis of Effects on Sensitive Instruments in Near-by Buildings Due to Vibrations Induced by Road Vehicles

In-situ measurements are done to evaluate the effect of vibration induced by road traffic loads on sensitive instruments in a near-by research building.11 sampling points is chosen to re cord time-history data of acceleration and displacement. The acceleration in one-third octave band and the maximum displacement amplitude are analyzed. The results show that the design of vibra tion reduction of this sensitive building should depend on the more stringent acceleration standards.Almost in all frequency bands, the vertical vibrations are larger than the horizontal vibrations in duced by road traffic loads.Under the effect of road traffic loads alone, values of acceleration of all measurement points is almost reach the vibration limit of sensitive instruments. The vertical acceler ation of point on the 1st floor is beyond the hmit at 10 Hz.So in order to meet the requirement of the normal work of sensitive instruments, isolation method of vibration should be used.Transmission loss from outside to inside shows that the building has an amplification effect on the vibration trans mission in some frequency bands.
