Study on Ground Vibration Isolation by Open Trench in Layered Soils
The fundamental solution of thin layered method (TLM) with quadratic shape function in layered soil is employed in the semi-analytical dynamical BEM to analyze the dynamic interaction of soil-structure.The effectiveness of passive vibration isolation by open trench in upper soft-layer and lower stiff-layer viscoelastic foundations is discussed in detail. The results show that : (i) In upper-soft and lower-hard layered soils in half-plane, the deeper trenches are necessary to meet the same screening effectiveness in homogeneous soils, and the amplitude reduction curve is apparently vibrated.(ii) To satisfy Richarts request of vibration isolation in layered soils, the depth of open trench should be greater than 1.3 when the normalized depth of top soil is less than 1.0.(iii) when normalized depth of top soil is greater than or equal to 1.0 and less than or equal to 2.0, the normalized depth of open trenches should be greater than 1.8, which is quite different from homo geneous elastic foundations.
