Seismic Response of Geosynthetic-reinforced and Pile-supported Embankment Due to Oblique Incidence of Seismic Waves
Geosynthetic-reinforced and pile-supported (GRPS) embankments have been widely constructed in the past decades to reduced the total and differential settlement of an embankment, especially on soft subgrade soil.In this paper, a three-dimensional FEM model of this embankment system is put forward with the aid of viscous-spring artificial boundary condition, to investigate the seismic response due to the oblique incidence of seismic waves. The results show that the horizontal dynamic responses of embankment surface decrease with the increasing of the incident angle.Fur ther, the tension in geosynthetic and the settlement of embankment are higher than those under stat ic conditions. Therefore, it is essential to take the seismic response into account in the design of GRPS embankment.
