Treatment of Wastewater Containing Sulfamethoxazole with Membrane Bioreactor
The technique of applying membrane bioreactors (MBR) for the treatment of wastewater is increasingly gaining attention. This study investigated the effects and process featuring on treatment of the wastewater containing the antibiotic sulfamethoxazole (SMX) with an MBR.The results show that SMX removal rate was between 9.0-24.0%, with sludge absorption playing an important role, from the 1st to the 21st day of MBR operation.Meanwhile, between the 23rd and 45th day of operation, SMX removal rate reached 100%, with biodegradation playing a dominant role, accounting for 80% of total removal.Other technical parameters like the COD removal rate, SVI and the permeate flux also indicated that the MBR had a stable and advantageous application for treating the wastewater containing SMX.
