Evolution Mechanism of Spatial-Time Characteristics of High Arch Dam
As a kind of shell structure with strict requirements on foundation, high concrete arch dam has remarkable spatial-time characteristics. To take the Xiaowan Project, which has a 294.5 m high arch dam, as an example, the factor of time is comprehensively introduced in the whole numerical analysis procedure in this paper. The dynamic input of the parameters concerning geometry, mechanics, thermal and permeability following the construction progress, as well as their dynamic coupling with actions, are studied in an intention to establish a four-dimensional (spatial-time) numerical simulation method for real world. The Digitized System of Xiaowan Arch Dam (DSXAD) is then formulated mainly based on the combination of the safety monitoring system, the four-dimensional spatial-time simulation method, and the engineering judgments, which may be applied to evaluate the evolution in the real working conditions of the arch dam during its construction period as well as service period.A series of difficult technical issues in the implementation of the Xiaowan arch dam project are successfully solved by the use of the DSXAD, through these practices important theoretical insights are achieved, which will provide a solid base for the further revision and improvement of related design codes, and will found a new milestone for the high arch dam construction in China.
