The Design and Practice of Safety Monitoring System for Nuozhadu High Core Wall Rockfill Dam

Nuozhadu dam is 261.5 m in height, which makes it the worlds third-highest core wall rockfill darn.As such a high core wall rockfill dam, problems like large deformation, high stress and high water heads may be encountered, which require better design, selection and construction of monitoring instruments.In order to observe characteristics of the high dam in all every aspects, a comprehensive safety monitoring system is embedded.Monitoring items like dam settlement, sliding deformation between interfaces, arch effects in clay core, seepage of the dam body and foundation, stress of core are focused on.The real-time feedback system offers information assurance for engineering dynamic design and management.And the achieved monitoring information is proved to be good.Related experiences could be used as reference for similar projects.
