Research on Key Technology for Safe Operation of 300-m Grade Arch Dam During Reservoir Impoanding
Xiaowan Arch Dam is the highest two-curvature arch dam in operation in the world.Due to its large construction scale and long initial impoundment duration, safe and stable operation of the dam was critical.According to the demands of the initial impounding of Xiaowan Hydropower Project, key technology research for safe operation of 300-m grade arch dam during reservoir impounding was carried out comprehensively, and the systematic prediction-analysis-evaluatiou method for the real performance of 300-m grade ultra-high arch dam during impoundment was developed.Multiple large-scale, refine, overall and nonlinear finite element aualysis models were established, and the finite element simulation demonstrated the development and distribution law of three-dimensional temperature field and stress field of high arch darn form construction period to early operation period; the obtained results provided reservoir impounding safely with important technical supports.A variety of contact elements and fracture unit model were employed to simulate the behaviors of the dam heel induced joints and dam temperature cracks during the reservoir impoundment, including open, close, yield, etc.Thus the theoretical basis for the evaluation of performance of the arch dam was obtained.The difference between the calculated stresses at dam heel and the measured values was systematically investigated; the calculation method for the stress at dam heel of high arch dam based on actual monitoring data was proposed; the main reason that conventional calculated stresses and measured values were quite different were revealed.A complete dam automatic monitoring system was established in time; in the process of reservoir impounding, monitoring data inversion analysis method considering space-time multiple factors was employed to obtain the mechanics parameters of dam and foundation, which coincide with the actual monitoring data; thus the simulation for multiple stages impoundment was possible.Performance prediction & warning model and method for high arch dam were established based on the simulation considering the entire dam and whole construction process; the comprehensive warning indicators of dam deformation and seepage during reservoir impoundment were suggested in time.The research results have been used in Xiaowan Hydropower Project, providing a reliable technical support for the reservoir impounding to the normal water level.
