Naussac Dam (france):Aginf of the Upstream Concrete Face:Detection,Looking for Leaks and Repair

The CFRD is sealed by its upstream mask.Under the effect of the deformation of the face slab, or under the influence of aging sealing devices may experience failures.Since its exploitation in 1983, the Naussac CFRD dam (France), 50 m height, is characterized by seepage flow of the order of 450 L/rain.From 1994, rates increased strongly to an average of 1 700 L/rain.The monitoring system was reinforced. The dam has experienced several crises with very high flow rates. We developed specific monitoring, searched for leaks and initiate different repairs, as a temporary emergency solution or more permanently. We present our experiences in the three areas : -Monitoring: seepage measurement monitoring is done through automatic equipment; -The search for leaks, including underwater inspection-assisted by full panoramic Imaging sonar ; -Repairs which included: (1) temporary work performed under water; (2) definitive treatment of a part of the executed joints ; (3) of the one-off final work performed under water.During underwater interventions, the effect of the repairs was immediately evaluated with the help of monitoring devices.Definitive treatment carreid out above the water level and exceptionnally below thewayer level.
