An Analysis of the Performance of the Public Sector Enterprises in the South African Economy
This paper will as a point of departure focus on the economic growth and development of the South African economy.This will provide the background explaining the involvement State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) in the economy.SOEs fulfil an essential element towards the contribution of economic development, not only locally but also regionally and internationally by sourcing capital equipment, finance and most importantly partnerships for development.For the purpose of this paper, four of the largest SOEs in the Republic of South Africa will be analysed, their financial contribution and performance will also be discussed.The paper will conclude with the challenges faced by SOEs and recommendations to address these challenges will be provided to ensure the success of SOEs towards building the South African economy.
