Innovative Local Government Strategies for Improved Service Delivery:The South African Case
Globalisation, the global financial meltdown and the enhancement of IT caused concerns as to how governments would react in respect of inter alia service delivery.The recent local government service delivery protests in South Africa could confirm these concerns.However, through legislative measures, additional financial resources and innovative programmatic interventions such as the Local Government Turnaround Strategy (LGTAS), the 2013 Single Public Service Bill and the National Development Strategy 2030 government introduced strategies ranging from a single public services on all spheres of government to ensure efficiency, quality and collaboration by all institutions, differentiation to ensure a better fit of responsibilities between provinces and local government and appointing competent officials to strengthen the performance of local government and thus improve service delivery, are deliberated upon in this paper/article.
