Urbanization,Political Transformation,and Governance Reform in China:A Review of Literature and History

摘要：

　　There are four theoretical paradigms concerned with urban politics, namely elitism, pluralism, growth machine theory, and political entrepreneurs theory.They are all supported by related historical facts.For Chinese cities in the transition period, urban politics are developed in their own special ways due to the market economy.Nevertheless, these four theoretical paradigms can also be applied to the growth of Chinese cities in some ways.Fiscal decentralization of cities is an important internal driving force, which is strengthened by the development of urbanization strategies.In terms of external factors, globalization has made the concept of global city an important research subject and the global city governance is revealed in the development of Chinese megalopolis and has promoted the reform of Chinese urban governance.
