Analysis of Main Causes for European Debt Crisis

  European debt crisis has lasted for more than three years since it broke out in 2009.Besides, accompanied by recent debt problem of Cyprus and the increase in default risk of Slovenia, European debt crisis has the trend to ceaseless spread and diffusion.This paper thinks the outbreak of this European debt crisis and its spread are not casual, but the result of multiple internal and external factors.External factors triggering this debt crisis mainly include: The influence of global financial crisis; practical mentality of international investors and benefit pursuit behavior of interest groups add fuel to the fire; international credit rating agencies amplify European debt crisis.Internal factors arousing this debt crisis involve two layers: the factors at Eurozone layer mainly contain: Unbalanced political and economic development; institutional defect in Eurozone; structural contradictions at Eurozone; the factors at the layer of PIIGS+C (PIIGS+C refers to Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece, Spain and Cyprus) countries mainly include: Negative effect of democracy and unbalanced industrial structure.
