The Current Situation of Scientific Metadata
Scientific metadata is a key factor for data sharing and removing barriers to big data.There are lots of scientific metadata standards, which can be classified into general scientific metadata and subject-based scientific metadata.The existing seientific metadata standards are mostly in natural science and part of them in social science.Scientific metadata standards are rich in number but mainly subject-based.Most of them are developed based on specific data repository or data sharing project.More and more institutions and scientists participate in the development and management of scientific metadata with new information organization technologies.However, there are many problems to be solved such as lack of generality, poor interoperability and ignoring the overall scientific workflow.
