The Feasibility of Rapid Monitoring Bio-toxicity of Heavy Metals Pollution Caused by Livestock and Poultry manures Using Caenorhabditis Elegaus
Increasing with the development of livestock and poultry industry, serious environmental heavy metals pollution caused by animal manures has aroused more concem due to large amounts of trace elements such as copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), cadmium (Cd), chro min m (Cr), lead (Pb), manganese (Mn), and arsenic (As) were added to the animal feeds.Though metal pollution induced by animal manures were carried out, most of studies focused on the content, chemical form changes and mobility of heavy metals in environment, plants and animals, however the potential bio logical toxicity, especially the possible human healthy risk, has rarely been investigated. In the present study, the status of heavy metals pollution induced by livestock and poultry manures was reviewed firstly. As to the potential bio-toxieity, using Caenorhabditis elegans (C.elegans) as an in vivo model organism, a possible method of rapid monitoring bio-toxicity of heavy metals pollution caused by livestock and poultry manures was discussed.
