Pretreatment for High Strength Ammonium in Piggery Wastewater by Natural Zeolite
Effeets of Chinese natural zeolite on the removal of high concentration ammonium contained in piggery wastewater were evaluated to prevent its inhibition on methane fermentation in this study.Orthogonal experiment was designed with 7 factors at 3 levels to systematically analyze the infhencing factors, subsequently to obtain the optimum conditions. The optimum values of influencing factors and their ranks were as follows: ammoninm concentration (3000 me/L) > particle size (1-2.5 ram) > temperature (55 ℃) > pH (7) > dosage (35 g) > stirring rate (150 r/min) > dextrose concentration (10 g/L).Ion exchange was predominant compared to the physical adsorption during this process. The ammonium removal efficiency for piggery wastewater under the optimal conditions reached 35.8%6, which was less than 72.2% for simuhted wastewater. It was mainly due to that the concentration of ammonium in the piggery wastewater was lower than thesimulation wastewater. Results indicated that natural zeolite could be applied in piggery wastewater pretreatment for higherammoninm removal.
