Removal of Ammonia Nitrogen from Swine Wasterwater Using Ti/Mn-Ni/SnO2-Sb-CeO2Anode

  Ti/Mn-Ni/SnO2-Sb-CeO2 anode was select among 4 self-made anodes to remove ammonia nitrogen from swine wastewater based on ammonia n itrogen removal rate index and energy consumption index when using stainless steel cathode.The effects of current density, pH and chlorine ion concentration on removal rate of ammonia nitrogen were studied when using synthetic wastewater and the removal rate of ammoninm nitrogen achieved 98.5% when treatment time was 60 min, pH was controlled in 8-10, current density was 20 mA/cm2, chlorine ion concentration was 500 mg/L, and the initial ammonia nitrogen concentration was 1000 mg/L Moreover, it is clear that ammonia nitrogen removal mainly depended on indirect oxiidation.The raw and biologically pretreated swine wastewaters were treated respectively using Ti/Mn-Ni/SnO2-Sb-CeO2 anode and Ti cathode under optimal process conditions.The results showed that ammonia nitrogen removal performance for biologically pretreated swine wastewater was more effective than that for raw swine wastewater, and ammonia nitrogen removal rate of biologically pretreated swine wastewater 95.6% which indicates that effluent ammonia nitrogen concentration could meet the 80 mg/L of requirement of discharge standard of pollutants for livestock and poultry breeding (GB18596-2001) if influent ammonia nitrogen concentration was below 1800 mg/L when using Ti/Mn-Ni/SnO2-Sb-CeO2 anodeand stainless steelcathode.
