Study on Preparation of Steel Tube-Confined Concrete (STCC)with High Early-Strength and Micro Expansion by Using Sulphoaluminate Cement

The preparation of steel tube-confined concrete (STCC) with high early-strength and micro expansion by using sulphoaluminate cement (SAC) was discussed in this paper.Aimed at the problem of the large slump loss of SAC concretes resulting from the high speed of the setting and hardening of SAC, boric acid and aluminum sulfate at the compliance dosage were used as a retarder to achieve moderate retarding of SAC.Through using this retarding admixture and a polycarboxylate-based super plasticizer (SP), pumping SAC concretes (C50, C60) with high-early strength were prepared. The test results of pertinent properties of con cretes demonstrated that by providing additional curing water by incorpora tion of saturated lightweight aggregate (SLWA) with the optimal volume fraction, the strengths and modulus of elasticity of SAC concretes reduced slightly while the expansion ratio increased significantly, which mainly benefited from the internal curing and would strengthen the confining effect and thus improve the performance of the STCC structure. The per formance of short columns under uniaxial compression revealed that the ul timate load-carrying capacity of STCC columns cast by SAC concretes was higher than that of STCC columns cast by Portland cement expansive con cretes with a similar strength.
