Degradation Evaluation of a Novel Composite Nanofibrous Electrospun Biopolymer Membrane

The aim of tiie present study is to investigate the degradability of a novel nanofibrous biopolymer membrane witii potential application on tissue engineering. The wool was hydrolyzed into alkaline solution. The keratin precipitates were collected tiiereafter by decreasing tiie pH value of the solution. The keratin precipitates were re-dispersed in botii DI water and ethanol absolute consequently. The composite blend of keratin precipitates and PLLA chloroform solution was eleclrospun. The morphology of tiie membranes wereobserved by SEM images which indicated tiiat the thin keratin/PLLA nanofibers were unfolded after degradation in PBS solution. The UV spectra fatherly indicated the degradation rate of keratin. The FTIR spectrademonstrate the same degradation trend by comparing the intensities of keratin characteristic peaks. The thermal properties of the degraded membranes were tested by TGA.
