Sensory Evaluation and Instrumental Methods for Measuring Tactile Properties of Silk Fabrics
In this study,6 silk woven fabrics were subjected to sensory evaluation through descriptive analysis performed by a panel of 31 assessors. Then instrumental evaluation was conducted with a new instrumental evaluation method, through FTT-Fabric Touch Tester. The correlation between instrumental data and sensory attributes was investigated.Sensory evaluation indicated that silk fabrics, had a slightly higher itchiness, scratchiness, prickliness, stickiness and a lower warmness, tiiickness and roughness as compared to the reference fabric.Principal component analysis (PCA) indicated a high correlation of surface variables, bending variables, thermal variables and compression variables. Finally,Correlation Analysis indicated that measurements performed with FTT were correlated with a number of basic touch traits, mainly including surface and bending attributes.
