An Empirical Study on the Climate Effects of Fabric Touch Feels

  Fabric touch feels are important factors for customers.They are perceived by humans tiirough the nerve system and follow tiieir neurophysiological mechanisms.Researchers found that fabric touch feels were always modified by individual bias.Limited research has been found on investigating on the climate effects on the fabric touch feels.Neuroscience pointed out that acclimation to climate could affect tiie performance of human nerve organics.And these changes may finally affect touch feels.This reported subjective behavioral measures were conducted include 20 different fabrics in tiiree cities of China.Total 102 subjects were recruited voluntarily from campus.Four terms as cool - warm,rough - smooth,stiff - pliable,and hard - soft are used to describe different aspects of fabric touch feels.Results presented showed altiiough tiiere were tiie similar hand feel patterns among 20 fabrics,scores of each fabric however differ from different climate conditions.Multi-ANOVA test confirmed tiiat significant differences existed between with factors of interaction from fabrics and climate conditions.Further correlation scatter plots and correspondingly linear fitting equations (y = mx + b) were presented.The slopes (m) and intercepts (b) were defined as adjustment parameters.Correlation comparison was conducted with tiiese adjustment parameters and climate features like temperature and relative humidity differences of tiiese 3 cities.Findings include that a higher temperature and higher relative humidity might lead to less sensitive of fabric touch feels as cool - warm,rough - smootii,and hard - soft.
