Dilettante Amateurism in Streetwear Design

摘要：

　　In the study of youtii subculture,issues related amateur DIY (Do-It-Yours elf) have been extensively discussed witiiin the spheres of punk music,writings,and fanzines.Comparatively,its performance in youtii fashion is largely neglected.Furthermore,the emphasis of extant analysis is on tiie role of DIY as resistance against mainstream society.This paper intends to go beyond tiiese limitations and get new insights into the DIY ethos of youtii subculture.By focusing on streetwear design,we examined this issue in a broader perspective of design amateurism.Based on literature review,two key dynamics were reported: dilettante amateurism; and open collaborative design mode based on subcultural camaraderie.Finally,a tiieoretical framework was preliminarily constructed.
