Effect of Weaving Density on Liquid Flow-through Woven Fabrics
The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship of wicking coefficient between woven fabrics and yarns.A series of plain fabrics were woven with different weft weave densities.Woven fabrics and yarns obtained from the corresponding fabric on the warp and weft directions were used as measurement samples.Based on the thermocouple array method, the relationship between time and wicking length of liquid on samples were measured and wicking coefficients were calculated. For higher weave density, the wicking coefficients of fabrics were lower. The smallest wicking coefficient of fabric was obtained at 90/inch of weft weave density for both the warp and weft directions. This is because of the effective capillary radius.
