Effect of Time,Temperature mad Duty Cycle during Domestic Tumble Drying on Surface Performance of Woven Cotton-Blended Shirts
In order to understand how the parameters of washer-dryer influence the surface performance of shirts,three kinds of plain-woven cotton-blended shirts after washing were dried in a domestic tumble washer-dryer under predetermined temperature,time period and duty cycles.Smoothness appearance,dimensional stability and moisture content were measured using appropriate standard test methods.The results showed that the final moisture content was inversely proportional with the time and temperature for a constant load.Specimens showed insignificant changes in dimensional stability as well significant changes in smoothness appearance during tumble drying.Compared with hanging drying,a much worse and visible consequence of tumble drying woven shirts was wrinkles and creases.The agitation of drum was beneficial to the smoothness appearance while there was no apparent influence on the dimensional stability.It was demonstrated that the smoothness appearance of woven cotton-blended shirts was affected by fiber distinct characteristics,temperature and final moisture content but further work is required in order to find an optimum balance between these.
