Effect of nitration condition on nitration uniformity of nitrocellulose fibers
The nitrocellulose was synthesized by nitrating the cotton linter, with HNO3/H2SO4/H2O or HNO3/CH2Cl2 as nitration agents. The nitrogen content and nitrogen content distribution (uniformity of nitration)of nitrocellulose were analyzed by a polarizing microscope. The influences of the component of nitration system and nitrification temperature on the nitrogen content and uniformity of nitrocellulose were studied. The water content in HNO3/H2SO4/H2O needs to be strictly controlled and mixed acids high in sulphuric acid is employed to give a material of high nitrogen content but bad uniformity. The nitrogen content and uniformity of the product prepared by two nitration agents has no significant differences.Take all results in consideration, we conclude that the nitrogen content and uniformity of NC may be determined by the diffusion of nitrating agent.
