A successive and scalable process for preparing spherical-like submicron-sized RDX by the SEDS process
Preparing cyclotrimethylene-trinitramine (RDX) of spherical-like and submicron-sized has been described through the process of solution enhanced dispersion by supercritical fluids (SEDS process).Because SEDS is a successive and scalable process, about 40.5g RDX particles can be obtained within 70min and the total yield is about 90.0% under optimized conditions.Submicron-sized RDX and original samples were characterized and confirmed by different analysis methods. The results revealed that submicron sized RDX particles have the shape of spheres with mean particle size of 767nm, higher purity, no crystal structure change, and easier decomposition.Mechanical sensitivity of submicron-size RDX were decreased in comparison to the original RDX.
