Centralite deterred ball powder propellant:stability and influence of the firing temperature
A propellant containing centralite 1 as combustion rate moderator (deterrent) has been investigated in a spherical and flattened geometry. Two properties have been studied: the chemical and ballistic stability and the influence of the firing temperature. The ballistic stability is influenced by the deterrent diffusion and by the denitrification of the nitrocellulose. The influence of the firing temperature is greater for the spherical propellant than for the flattened propellant, this result has been rationalized by impact tests. These tests have shown that the influence of defects is greater for the flattened propellant than for the spherical propellant.
