Research on the rheological characteristics of gelled-propellant simulants
Gelled propellants behave as non-Newtonian fluids. The rheological characteristics of gel propellants are distinctly different from Newtonian fluid. Therefore, the experiment method ofrheological characteristics of gel propellant has its own specialty. In this study, the correlations of non-Newtonian fluids between the liquid volume flow rate and pressure drop across tube, and the nominal shear rate and real shear rate are deduced, which constructs the basis of experiment research. The scheme and apparatus of experiment are proposed.Using gelled water instead of gelled propellant, the rheological characteristics are experimentally conducted, which based on the proposed experiment platform. The experiment results and the constitutive equations of the gelled water simulants are obtained. It is shown that the power-law model is suitable for gelled water simulants.Based on the smoothed particle hydrodynamics method (SPH), the distribution of velocity and viscosity are simulated. The result shows: in the area of pipe wall, the changes of velocity and shear rate are distinct, and the shear viscosity decreased obviously.
