Detonation in heptane/oxygen/air mixtures in a pulsed combustor
The present paper considers the propagation dynamics of combustion wave in the pulsed combustor of small length (L =620 mm) where pulsing heterogeneous detonation in air-diluted heptane and oxygen mixtures is implemented. It is found that detonation combustion and deflagration-to-detonation transition are influenced by the initial mixture temperature, the cell-structure obstacle, and the fuel-air equivalent ratio. It is shown that depending on the above factors, in heptane and oxygen mixtures detonation is generated at distances of 100-250 mm from the ignition initiator, whereas in air-diluted heptane and oxygen mixtures in the air-to-oxygen ratios air/O2 =1.4...5.0-at distances of 400-600 mm.The results of this research illustrate the possibility to obtain controlled pulsing detonation in the small-length tube.
