Progressive combustion performance of poly(ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) deterred spherical-type single-base propellants
Di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP) and Poly(Ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) (PEGDMA) deterred spherical-type single-base propellants were prepared respectively and tested by closed bomb to compare their progressive burning performance. With the increase of deterrent DBP contents penetrated into the nitrocellulose (NC) matrix, the burning time reaching to maximum pressure is longer, and accordingly maximum pressure becomes lower. However, the significant progressive burning can not be observed through deterring by DBP.Since DBP is small molecular compound, it can be penetrated inside to the single base NC matrix and slow the burning rate in whole deterred depth. For the porous spherical-type propellants, the penetration of DBP into the porous NC bulk becomes more obviously. Therefore, the dynamic vivacity of deterred porous spherical-type propellants decreases dramatically. With the increase of added monomer EGDMA contents, the deterred layer of PEGDMA decreases the maximum pressure and prolongs the burning end time accordingly.Compared with DBP deterred propellants, high progressive burning of PEGDMA deterred spherical-type tingle base propellants can be achieved easily.
