Experimental study on initiation and ignition of charge combined under shock wave and flyer impact

  To study the initiation and ignition characteristic of charge under combined shock wave and flyer impact, a serie of step by step experiments were performed.The charge was first loaded by shock wave, and then the damaged charge was impacted by a flyer.The initiation threshold velocities were obtained for the pristine and damaged charge shocked at three different shock pressures.In addition, the critical ignition and initiation velocities of the charge were obtained for the charge damaged by shock pressure of 2.38 GPa and the pristine.The results show that the damage of charge by the shock pressure of 1.12 GPa does not affect the initiation threshold velocity of charge when impacted by a flyer.However, when the shock pressure is more than 1.75 GPa, the damage, which plays a role of sensitization the explosive, have to be taken into accout.
