Fabrication and tests of a Si-based initiator
Fuzes have a requirement to develop miniature initiator so that reductions in both weight and volume of the explosive train can be achieved.The space saved can be utilized for improveon-boardguidance, control systems and increase the main charge.Si-based initiator designed using micro-electro-mechanical(MEMS) concepts and fabricated using integrated circuit fabricating technics.Its volume and weight decreased relative to conventional initiator.An additional advantage is that Si-based initiator can be integrated directly with an electronic safety and arming unit.In this paper, components of initiator was designed, such as heating resistor(Ni-Cr film bridge),micro-scale filling, etc.The initiators were functioned and the power output determined by testing.The results show the output reliably initiated further components of an explosive train.It requires 18V,22μF for ignition.
