Contrastive Study on the Process Mineralogy of Flux Films for Different Steels Slab Casting

The process mineralogy of flux films for Q235B and Q345B steel slab casting in Tangshan Steel Co.Ltd.has been studied, and the theoretical basis for improving surface quality of casting slabs is provided. It is found that crystallization behavior of all the accidental films is an anomaly, and the mineral contents of reasonable films vary considerably. The mineralogical phase of reasonable films for Q235B steel, whose crystallization ratio can reach 90% ~ 95%, includes akermanite, cuspidine and wollastonite; but the outstanding characteristic of accidental films for Q235B steel slab with longitudinal crack is that crystallization can be only 65% ~ 70%.In contrast, the reasonable films for Q345B steel barely include wollastonite, and the crystal ratio can be only 35%~ 65%; and yet, the biggest hallmark of accidental films for Q345B steel slab with surface inclusions is the mass formation of cuspidine and high crystallization ratio up to 95%.
